‏How do Muslims Contribute to their Community in the Current Events?

With the social media and the different platforms that we have in our era today, all news and information are being delivered to us very quickly, if not immediately (Live). We are able to see what is happening in every spot around the world at the same time.

As Muslims, our religion requests us to worry about our community and be responsible to support and take part with the rightful, in any geographical area. The latest events taking place in Palestine push us to stand by our brothers and sisters and support them, in all the means that we can apply. The Palestinian Cause is not confined to the Palestinian people, yet it touches every Muslim around the world because it is a matter of faith and a root of doctrine.

The Messenger of Allah () said, "The believers in their mutual kindness, compassion and sympathy are just like one body. When one of the limbs suffers, the whole body responds to it with wakefulness and fever" (Al Bukhari and Muslim)

So, when it is called for help in a certain area, the whole community stands to help as the Prophet () commanded.

We will be asked on the day of Judgment how did we support our Muslim brothers and sisters and how did we stand for them. Wouldn’t we be ashamed to not have a heartwarming answer?!

Because we believe that we can make a change, we share with you below some effective ways to contribute to the community in the current events:

1- Change Yourself to Change your Condition

إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُغَيِّرُ مَا بِقَوْمٍ حَتَّىٰ يُغَيِّرُوا مَا بِأَنفُسِهِمْ (11)
“Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves” (Surah Al Raad, Verse 11)

Our actions (even those by heart such as wishing bad for others) and our shortening in our Ibadat, contributed to making us suffer on the whole community level. If we are looking for victory and looking for a change in our Ummah, we shall change the way we act, increase our worshipping and repent from our sins. The rightness of the nation comes with the rightness of the souls of individuals.

2- Make Dua’a

We might be away from Palestine physically, but we should never be away spiritually!

We should at least deny in our hearts the oppression exercised over Palestinians in Gaza, Sheikh Jarrah, and all other Palestinian lands. Each one of us is requested to contribute in the way that he can. The least we can do is make Supplication (Dua’a).

"‏من رأى منكم منكرًا فليغيره بيده، فإن لم يستطع فبلسانه، فإن لم يستطع فبقلبه وذلك أضعف الإيمان‏"‏ ‏‏‏(‏رواه مسلم‏)‏‏
The Messenger of Allah () said, "Whoever amongst you sees an evil, he must change it with his hand; if he is unable to do so, then with his tongue; and if he is unable to do so, then with his heart; and that is the weakest form of Faith" (Muslim)

Have faith that victory is absolute, even if it was after a while.

3- Donate your Time and Money

Since we are not able to be present physically on spot to defend the innocents and the land, we are obliged to strove with our money and time, as much as we can.

Look for reliable organizations in your country that support Palestinians especially in Gaza and Jerusalem, and help them rebuild their shelters and heal the wounded or even support financially orphans and widows.

4- Raise Awareness and Spread the Word

Do not underestimate the power of your words or actions!

For anyone who has any platform, you have a duty to share content and let the world see the truth. Many people participated in different campaigns, each in their field, to support the cause and shed light on the events. Painters sketched pictures, singers sang for the issue-matter, athletes held Palestinian flags on their games; even some makeup artists, filmed a look in the making related to the cause in order to raise awareness.

Islam raises us to be courageous and strong, so do not be afraid to call things by their real names like apartheid, massacre, Israeli occupation forces and not defense military, forced expulsion and not eviction, …

        Protest for Palestine Bokitta Blog

You can also take part in Protests that can indeed pressure people in power to take action.

How can you remain silent on those who got Muslims and Palestinians out of their houses, took their lands, and killed their women and children?

Do not be silent for humanity’s sake! Because remaining silent, is by itself, taking a side!

        5- Boycott

A boycott generates a lot of negative publicity for the boycotted organization. Add to this a major threat to the organization's profits. This method works if many people took part in it, so be one of them. A successful boycott will persuade the company to modify its policy, perhaps they retreat from financing the occupation!

There is no normalization with an oppressor or an occupier; So, let’s boycott all governments, institutions, brands and individuals who support or finance violence and invest in the souls and blood of innocent people.

The victory does not come without us being unified and cooperating to save our community, protect our lands and properties. Our voices and actions matter, they are our weapon. And the proof of that is what happened latetly. With our Dua’as and our call to action, we were able to put pressure in order to end the bad acts and we caused a change, Alhamdulillah, and we should not stop our Dua'a nor our support, because the Cause is not over yet.

We believe that our martyrs are alive, and we ask Allah to grant them the highest levels in Jannah, and we ask him to heal our injured people. Our role as a community is to continue with their message and to end the oppression exercised over the innocents, all around the world.

We should also support their families emotionally and financially, and provide them with shelter and supplies.

Oh Allah, be the help and preservation of the vulnerable. Oh Allah, strengthen them, tie their hearts, unify their ranks and make them steadfast. Oh Allah, grant them victory …
