7 Virtues for Memorizing The Holy Quran
The Quran is the most beautiful and precious thing that someone can recite or memorize. It preserves the one who memorizes it and opens for him the doors in life and Jannah. It is a constitution for a nation and a way of life, and we were commanded by our prophet ‘peace be upon him’ to learn it and teach it to others, and those who do so are among the best. The main duty of the Muslim is to read the Quran and work upon its rules and regulations, yet memorizing its chapters is a major blessing and honor.
The beauty of the Quran is that you cannot change its words, but its words will absolutely change you!
We do not want to be those people whose inner selves are ruined and reflect on their appearances, yet we ask Allah to be among those who have a light on their fresh faces.
The merit of memorizing the Book sent by Allah came in the Noble Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet in many texts, from which scholars derived the importance and virtue of memorizing the Holy Quran, so we present to you below 7 Virtues for Memorizing the Quran:
1. The Quran will Intercede for its Memorizer on the Day of Resurrection:
It is proven in the authentic Hadiths reported from our beloved Prophet ‘peace be upon him’ that the Quran will come as an intercessor for its companions on the Day of Resurrection, that they even get expelled with it from the Fire.
2. The Hafiz of the Quran Ascends the Ranks of Paradise upon his memorization level
He who memorizes the Holy Quran will rise in Jannah according to the extent of his memorization, and the more he memorizes, the higher he rises in ranks.
3. The One who Recites as a Memorizer is among the Angels
The Quran lifts its Hafiz to reach the levels of the Mala’ika (Angels).
4. The One who Memorizes the Quran is among The People of Allah
5. The Memorizer and his Parents are Honored on the Day of Judgment
It is absolutely the best honor, to get in life and the afterlife.
From Allah’s mercy and generosity, He does not only honor the memorizer, but He honors his parents as well, because they had for sure a role in teaching him and letting him love the Holy Book in Dunya, so they will be invited on the day of judgment to the door of Jannah to wear the crown of honor and the suit of dignity in front of all people. Their sins will be forgiven by the blessing of the Quran! So the parents of the Hafiz benefit from his memorization and their rank is exalted by the blessing of what he has memorized from the Book of Allah.
Add to this a beautiful blessing that Allah granted us is that if a person was a reason for someone else to read, learn or memorize the Quran, he will get the same Ajer as the reader, every time he recites. It is a form of “Sadaqah Jariyah.”
6. The Memorizer of the Quran takes Precedence over others in Prayer
The memorizer of the Quran has priority in leading the people in prayer (being an Imam) because his Tajweed is better and he knows more how to read and not make mistakes.
7. The memorizer of the Quran will follow the Prophet and the Righteous
It must be a Sunnah to memorize the Quran because the Prophet ‘peace be upon him’ was a memorizer. Jibreel ‘peace be upon him’ taught our beloved Prophet the Quran in batches. And although the Prophet couldn’t read or write, yet he had the Quran in his heart, and he acted upon it in a complete application until he was called a Quran walking on the earth.
So whoever follows the acts of Prophet Mohammed ‘peace be upon him' especially in memorizing the Quran, he will be gathered with him and the righteous ancestors in the highest levels of Paradise.
Besides all that, we do not forget to mention the great reward offered to the Quran memorizer, and the inner peace that it provides for him. It is also a basis of useful knowledge and it helps develop the mental skills of the reader and the memorizer. Some of the righteous memorized the Quran after the age of 80, so there is no age for memorizing, yet in the early years of the life of the person, he will have a better memory and more time.
The Quran has its secrets and special blessings, that we should not let go of our hands. If you were not able to memorize the full Quran, at least do your best to memorize certain Surahs that are very special. For example, Surah Al Baqarah and Aal Imran, must be memorized because “on the day of judgment they will come as two clouds or two shades, or two flocks of birds in ranks* pleading for those who recite them.” (Muslim)
There is a major problem if a person memorizes the Quran but does not apply it in his life. It will become an argument against him on the day of resurrection because the Quran should not be recited only by the tongue, yet it should be felt in your heart and applied through your senses and we ask Allah to help us to memorize his Holy Book and work upon it.
🌹 Oh Allah, make us among those who work with the Quran during the night and the ends of the day. 🌹
